Weekend in Pictures

In case you needed solid proof that I was the mom of 4 this Labor Day weekend-Here are pictures from our weekend (using the new and even a little behind time app hipstamatic) we packed up the van (my sister's, they won't all hit in my car) hit the road to have a short/not restful/but totally jam packed weekend of Labor. First stop: my roots (somewhere in middle Nebraska) where the kids had tons of late nights, grandpa time, soda, scooter riding, hula-hooping, bowling fun as they possibly could. After a few nights of sleeping in one room with 4 people none of us got a whole lot of sleep. Just imagine 2 out of the 4 people talking in their sleep, 1 out of the 4 people falling out of bed all while being awoke every 30 minutes by a train that shook the bed. (no complaining here: just facts)

Then off to the lake. Nothing to describe here except....I will own a place by water someday, NO DOUBT.

I was given a challenge on Facebook to list 15 albums that I've heard that will always stick with me in 15 minutes.....I’ve named this list my dinosaur list. {all the songs from some of my most memorable times} Being the complete nerd that I am and knowing my over analyze self, I knew I needed to play by the rules. Becasue I realized the possibilities that lie ahead, I could feel myself going nuts. {So many to name, so many} So I set my stop watch via iPhone for 15minutes and here is my list. {I say this needs a few bonus tracks, I left out so many} My Dinosaur Songs that bring back lots of old friends and old times....Enjoy!

So I put my favorite songs from those albums to a mix. these are the songs that made me follow these bands. I LOVE this mix {sorry TTW, I couldn't find Kerosene to add to the list but click on the link, this is my ALL time fav song of theirs)

I could go on and on about these bands, these albums and the time in my life when they punched me in the face {because that is when music is at it's best, when it brings you to new realizations or the greatest moment in your life} But seriously, it's Friday and we are all getting ready to go enjoy the 3 day weekend. So I'll leave you with one question - What is your 15?

The Woman Who Loves Men

This GQ interview with Miuccia Prada, I read this a few years ago sitting in a waiting room of a pediatric clinic, during one of the many times my little mister was sick with an ear infection as a toddler. Weird. GQ in a peds waiting room? Anyway, I remember this interview from time to time; so today I searched thru the archives to share it with you. I fall victim to all things materialistic {good grief, my career is in interior design} and this interview just made me smile because PRADA (Mui Mui) is so well spoken and unpretentious.

GQ: My first memory of an Italian woman is Sophia Loren. Do you have a first memory of American men? Maybe how they dressed?

MP: I’m not interested in how people dress. Of course, I recognize if somebody’s elegant. But fashion doesn’t interest me. People interest me. If you ask, do you like strong men or weak men, I’d say, I like who I like.

GQ: Okay, so no fashion questions. Who was the first boy you were ever in love with?

MP: I will never answer that question. [laughs]

GQ: How old were you when you first…

MP: Eh!

GQ: Do you remember the first boy you had a crush on?

MP: I started kind of young. I think around 13. Twelve.

GQ: What did you learn?

MP: [laughs] I will never answer.

GQ: Okay, look—I’ll go first. You know what I told a girl the other day?

MP: That you had another girl and she should give it up?

GQ: No.

MP: What did you say to her?

GQ: Well, I was on a date—

MP: The process of a date, I think, is terrible. Horrible. Because everything is banal and predicted.

GQ: It’s like this interview—it’s sort of a bad date. You certainly don’t want to be here, right?

MP: No! This is not true. I just hate talking about myself.

GQ: The problem with dates is that they’re programmed seduction—you have to show up and try to seduce the person. Right? And life isn’t like that. Life is about the accidental, unscheduled seduction.
MP: Seduction is a matter of feelings and people opening themselves. I don’t think it’s something tricky—it’s being human. And everybody is seduced by something different. You want a little bit of champagne?

GQ: Champagne? Yeah, that’d be great.

MP: Yes?

GQ: Absolutely.

MP: Good. [A minute later, an assistant enters with champagne and two glasses.] Tell me about dates and dating. Is it true what you read in magazines—that there is the thing you have to do on the first date and the thing you have to do on the second date, and then by the third date you can get—what do you say, carried over?

GQ: You mean, have sex? In New York, yes. That’s how it goes, usually.

MP: Yes? New York really must be terrible.

GQ: You know that show Sex and the City?

MP: Embarrassing! I was thinking New York is like that. I have the impression that the people are like that—the women, the bitchiness.

GQ: The thing is, too many women see that show and they think that’s how their life should be. Rather than create their life, they imitate a stupid show. And that’s the worst thing you can do. Right?

MP: Oh no, it’s terrible. Also the way of total and sure unhappiness. It’s what I say all the time to my girls in the office here: The more they dress for sex, the less they will have love or sex. These girls throw away so much energy in this search for beauty and sexiness. I think that the old rules were much more clever and better than the rules now. The trouble is, most people are not so generous. Everybody wants love for themselves. I hear this all the time from the women I work with. I hear them say, “I want, I want.” I never hear them saying what they want to give.

GQ: Do you tell them that?

MP: Yes, of course. They don’t listen. With women, the more unhappy they are, the more undressed they are. This is true. Dignity’s another very important part of this. Sex and the City is the opposite of dignity. You have to have dignity for your body—this is with men and women. You need to have dignity towards how you are, how you dress, how you behave. Very important. Men are always much more dignified than most women.

GQ: Why?

MP: Because women have the stress of being beautiful, of age and youth. Men don’t have all that. And with women, that stress causes a lot of mistakes and bad choices—a lot of not being their true self. You know, the older I get, the more I prefer to talk to old people. Old people or kids.

GQ: So you want me to leave?

MP: [laughs] Because what they say is more spontaneous.

GQ: They have the freedom to tell the truth. Kids haven’t learned how to lie, and old people just don’t care anymore what people think.

MP: Exactly.

GQ: What do you remember about being a kid?

MP: That I had no fun. My family was too serious. They didn’t take care of me—it was a very serious and severe life. Not severe in a bad way; just boring—like totally neutral. I felt no emotion. I remember total flatness, and I didn’t have many friends. Also, when we were on vacation, we had to go to bed in the afternoon. We had to come home at seven o’clock, and all of the others stayed out. My parents were truly severe.GQ: You had to go to bed in the afternoon?

MP: I hated it. [laughs]

GQ: You probably just lay there and thought about escaping.

MP: No, I was not even that rebellious.

GQ: What do you remember of your father?

MP: I don’t talk about him.

GQ: You don’t like to live in the past.

MP: I like the past very much!

GQ: Only for vintage clothes, I think.

MP: Exactly! [laughs] I like getting older and being the person who people ask for help.

GQ: Being the wise woman.

MP: Yes.

GQ: You know, you weren’t always so wise—can we talk about when you used to be a mime? What’s with that? I mean, in America, being a mime is like admitting you are a certified freak.

MP: In America many things that are interesting are seen as odd.

GQ: Well, I had a theory about how it relates to your success: Mime is all about observing people and feeling what’s inside, right?

MP: I did mime because it was the time in life when you search. There were all these crazy, strange things to do at that moment, and mime had kind of a strange ambience, strange people, so I liked it. It was about self-control and being able to control your body and mind. It was a school of discipline. That’s what has stayed with me, discipline—to spend three days to focus on learning to move one little part of your body the right way. [She holds up her index finger and moves the top third back and forth.] To practice that for hours. This has stuck with me because it is what I do now—focus. To stand in one place and get it right.

GQ: That’s funny—you went from being a mime to being the spokesperson for the Prada Foundation, which supports art and artists.

MP: It’s very interesting: Because of the Prada name, I can do things that people normally would not care about in the culture. I can have an exhibit by some forgotten artist who I love, and because it’s Prada, people will come see it.

GQ: But isn’t that exciting for you? That power?

MP: Yes, very much. Also very embarrassing.

GQ: Why?

MP: Prada is something that should be so mundane, like clothes.

GQ: Why are you so insecure, Miuccia?

MP: For many years, I thought my work was so…not stupid, but I had the sense it was not real. I am trying to get past this feeling. You want some more champagne?

GQ: Yes, I would.

MP: Good. I need some. I respect my work. But also I think it’s very superficial. So that’s why we are doing all these other activities, because I’m a moralistic person in the end. But I am in a key moment. I kind of understand that I have to use my work more completely without being ashamed. [raises her glass] Chin-chin, yes?

GQ: Chin! So what is the point of fashion? The average GUY pictures a few strange people sitting around indulging their bizarre whims, and I’m not sure you disagree.

MP: Clothes can be important. I am learning this. For instance, often when I design and I wonder what is the point, I think of someone having a bad time in their life. Maybe they are sad, and they wake up and they put on something that I’ve made, and it makes them feel just a bit better. So in that sense, fashion is a little help in the life of a person. But very little. After all, if you have a serious drama, who cares about the clothes?

GQ: I believe in uniforms—finding a look you like and sticking to it.

MP: I love uniforms because they allow you to hide. No one knows what you are thinking, so it’s a very appropriate and correct way to be yourself.

GQ: You seem haunted by some voice in the back of your head, A voice telling you that you’re not good enough.

MP: Definitely.

GQ: Where does that come from?

MP: From Catholicism first and Communism after.

GQ: And your parents?

MP: My parents—yes, yes, oh, my God, yes.

GQ: Back to Communism for a second. in the ’60s you were a member of the party, and you’re still political. Do you ever think about running for office?

MP: [laughs] When I am really old and no longer a designer.

GQ: But people must talk to you about that, right?

MP: Yes. And it is something I think about. But in the future. Right now, maybe I can be political in my work. We will see. I like to be useful to people. I want to confront myself. I challenge and doubt myself. Basically, what I don’t like is to get bored.

So I guess 2 things should be said here 1) I still like clothes 2)and I'm reminded of another interview I read on P Diddy {years ago}, where he said he didn't use towels, but just had a lot of fans that blow him dry. All kinds of luxurious. Proves that maybe Americans are toooooo much? I'm American but only have one fan so I guess nuff said....

So I did some fall cleaning this past weekend {now, anyone who knows me knows what that means-cleaning freak show} It's kind of a little, no-big-deal thing that I inherited from my mom. (“freak”= don't stop disinfecting until the sun comes up, re-range to vacuum every inch of flooring and no rest until the place shines) But on my way thru the day I listened to Capitalist Youth At the Campfire probably like 3 and a half times (almost) straight through. I like it. And I tend to do that with things I like {listen/wear/do until I am so sick of it that I can't even look at it.} Anyway, I'm telling you, friend {if you're reading you are my friend or why else would you care to read} about this great band. ENJOY

the weather was so nice that a visit to the park was a must. Little mister is in love with that octopus looking machine to the back of him. I'd say looks like a broken arm to me, but boys will be boys. Hope you all are getting out and enjoying the evening too.

Since it's been back to school time around my house, there has been lots of chatter about pens, notebooks, backpacks and pencils. I don't know about you, but my little guy wants all things new when it comes to back to school. But mostly (becasue he was bursting at the seams with leftovers from last year) he only needed a few items. But on our quest for the few items I ran across these:

Stop kidding myself

I've got an undiagnosed disease and I'm going to go ahead and admit it here on the interweb for all to see and for all to judge :) season change! I have a deep seeded need {that I fight with everyday} for clothing, Being content with the loads of clothes that I already have is just a lie that I tell myself because when a new season hits it's an automatic that I will kind of {in the most pleasant why to put it} become panicked that I NEED new clothes yet again. It's exhausting. {I'm exhausted} but here is my short wish list for now....

well, I finally went to see Cyrus. remember, my whole rant on why i don't go to the movies i want to see? Finally got around to Filmstreams showing of the film and I can't tell you how relieved i am that i a) finally saw the movie and b) one without my little mister. Every single darn actor in that movie was good. I love how Jonah Hill is taking his career in different places other than Super Bad. If you like movies that make you really uncomfortable, but in a way that still makes you laugh, you'll love this. I know Bret sat next to me with a look of "eeeeee" the whole time because he was just embarrassed for the characters.
I loved seeing John C. Reilly in a movie like this again, remember his P.T. Anderson movie days (this, this and this). He's awesome and very shrek like. Last but not least, Marisa Tomei, she's nails.....

BUT with all that said, I'm a single mom of a boy so there were points in this movie where I had to have a "come to jesus" (if you will) with myself. I'm super close with my son and I have to make darn sure he doen't grow up to be a sissy-sissy la-la, ya know? go see the movie, then we'll talk.....

It's hard to take risks with a pessimist...

Went to a baseball game.
A star wars themed evening at a 63 year old stadium.
We watched the Royals play a terrible game: they gave up 10 hits in the third inning. But with Star Wars Characters roaming the halls and isles watch what happened:

I'm left with the feelings that 1) there's obviously a better way to eat cotton candy because little mister so incredibly sticky, and 2) someday I want a pool in my life. Because it's so hot right now in Omaha

Motorcross fan to be..

My little mister has been gone for a mini vacation with his aunt and cousin's to my hometown's County Fair. He found a love of motorcrossing while he was there. He was rooting for number 11 who apparently took a dive at the end.....

Can't wait to have him home tonight. I've missed him....

Since I embraced Frighten Rabbit's last album The Midnight Organ Fight tightly, I had high hopes for the release of the follow up album. I guess one basic question that came to my mind as did everyone else's was "Can it possibly compare?" Well I've had the ablum (The Winter of Mixed Drinks) for some time and now it's safe to say it's slighly more the older version. You know, how most bands do, grow up in their music as a regular person {like myself} would just grown up in life....So listen to both albums if you never have and hopefully this Scottish band won't disappoint you becasue I heart them.
But what I wanted to share with you today is their contribution to A.V. Club's 25 Bands, 25 songs, 1 small round room. Scott put his sad spin on the The Lemonheads...

I've been reading some dressing right blogs consistantly since i statred Sequel. These reads {to follow} are hands down my go to guide on how to and wish I had that bloggers. I’m totally inspired and have been smartening up my wardrobe accordingly. The following are my favorite blogs, respectable sites, and stores that I frequent in order to dress right

Ms James at BLEUBIRD Vintage is just incredible. She's a mom, a stylist, a great spy for vintage pieces that are way wearable and totally the most adorable preganant person I've ever seen. Check out her blog and store. I've been following her preganacy via her blog and she is hands down the most talented mom I can know and not even know. :) I get inspired just by her talk of being a stylish mom, plus now I have some ideas of how to dress to my best with my next baby.

Top Shop’s blog department is the jam. Kind of like H&M for grownups. Just wish the pirce was more right (wa wa) I have to take things piece by piece :)

BU THE RIGHT THING
This writer over at ANNABU is still a bit of a mystery writer. She is a model/artist or at least that's what I think I've firgured out. What I like best about this site is that the author seems to understand what makes each of her showcased outfits work. I also like that she avoids obvious fashion icons, she definitely makes her own statement. Sometimes I'm like "eeee, I'm not sure...." But that's why I like reading....

Epic posts. All the posts on this site are wordy enough with wit and insight on DIY that I generally become overwhlemed and have to close my browsing window. If you can manage to overcome your eye strain phobias you’d realize that Kelly who runs the Glamourai is a designer/styling genius, who is kind enough to share her handmade jewels and her inspiration/outfits.

Well this release seems about right with Chicago's Lollapalooza right around the corner. I'm sure you'll read me ramble a little more a little later on this album.

Also I've found a new t-shirt shop, Worn Free, they reproduce tee shirts made famous by famous people wearing them. First you select your famous person, then you scroll through the history books of tees that they've worn. I don't own one, YET. But I will. So far I think I like this one....Right now they are having a mystery sale, where $10 will get you a "mystery tee." Just enter your size and pay 10 bucks, and recieve your risky mytery tee! So yeah, browse it, pick it, buy it or mystery it?! Maybe for $10 I'd get this one...

Second: I do know one thing, the TIME! because of my recent obsession with double watches. I have to admit though, everyday I get the question and some times in unison (if in a group): slightly confused before they ask "BUT why are you wearing two watches? That's weird." And what's funny is they don't all tell the same time, so I guess I have no other answer than for the sake of liking the look. so now I add yet another trend forcasted by my son. Silly Bandz. is it weird that I borrowed my son's silly bandz?? Becasue I think they are neat-o! SEEEEE..... And I'm not the only one...
And thrid: doesn't this little baby fall in that "You're so cute I might kick myself in the face" category???French Bulldogs!!! (I would really like one, someday)

Hey guys. I meant to post this when I found it but forgot. I think I was feeling sorry for myself since my mom hogged this whole photo booth memory. :) Anyway this is me about 9-10ish and my mom with glasses and a coat I wish she would have saved for me. She didn't realize at the time she would have a daughter who grew up to look old. She had hopes for a doctor or a lawyer or for anything that would have had me making more $$ so that thrift stores wouldn't be my main shopping outlet. And even though all of that is true, with a larger salary I'd probably still want those glasses and coat. The picture is a bit rough, but gives you an idea of how LARGE my my mom's noggin' is. {haha, joke.} I guess we needed to re-evaluate our sitting arrangement. And I imagine by the time this shoot was over mom was tired of dealing with what face to make next....or something.

So it's Friday and that's great news in it's self.

New or Old??

New to the little mister but the old way of learning about super heroes. We made our first ever appearance to a highly recommended comic store, Legend Comics. It was a success. Being the new comer's (that we both are) the staff was more than elated to have a new, young follower. This made for a quiet night around my house this evening. He didn't turn on the PS3 or Wii or DS or even the tv. I feel better about this choice compared to the video game purchases. Proud for sure of my little dude.

As I'm mapping out what will be taking place in the next few months to come, I'm doing my best not to fall on the dark side of my personality! There are so many out of town trips that NEED to happen: family, new and old friends to visit with, and work to be done, it's hard not to get a little excited (terrified of failure or leaving something out). My default setting seems to be panic at times. I'm only going to do the amount of work my body can physically do, I'm not going to worry about not knowing where we'll be living. I'm going to be a calm, cool, and collected version of myself. At least, that's what I've promised and prayed for today. ;)

For now, I'll focus on this week, which is full of birthdays, cleaning, packing, a trip to take the little mister to hid dad's and a well deserved night out with friends. CAN'T wait friends!!! I'll see you and these guys there....

Inspiration On a Wednesday

Jenny Lyons, the creative director at J. Crew, her taste is impeccable in both clothing & interiors. I've been watching this NY Brownstone that she shares with her husband and little boy since I first saw it in the Nov '08 Domino issue, and I was elated to see a more detailed glimpse of it in the September '09 issue of Living Etc. I have both issuses saved and look at them for inspration every so often. She has a knack for combining classic traditional pieces with unexpected twists to create an graceful, yet totally livable style

So after writing out loud on my movie behaviors in yesterday's post, I began to think "I deserve to go see some adult movies, it's just ludicrous that my child dictates time at the theaters" (ha, dictate is a bit dramatic because Jaxson never tells me I can't, I just never do) So here are the top 2 on my list as of today:

This "review" is probably only a tiny bit pertinent, and only to people who are like me: only really get to go to the movies that your kids want to go too. As much and as many movies as I'd like to see right now, my pocketbook just can't keep up. And 3D kid movie everything isn't really helping the cost of a movie. But that's a whole other ramble.

A big part of kid movie watching is as follows. Movie A becomes a mix of Movie B and C. For example, take a dog and mix it with "Kindergarten Cop" and "All Dogs Go to Heaven" or whatever, (I'm making this up but to make my point) then knowing how ridiculous a dead cop's body is entering a dog, who could then talk, but only to his dead partner: a big fat pass to most of the movies that my kid wants to see, however, we end up going just for something to do together and in some small ridiculous plotted stories I end up finding out that I don't mind a kid movie here or there once in awhile. (and it keeps little mister happy)

So with all of that said, Despicable Me was a mix of Annie (orphan's) and Up (old guy set in his ways ends up loving the kids). And The Incredible’s (the character's body shapes)? And Batman(only for all the weapons that just pop out of nowhere made by one master mind that is not the villain)? Thankfully it's missing whatever made Annie so boring, and whatever made every character in UP so irritating.

In Despicable Me, we've got a whole team of super villain’s who plot to outdo each other, being funded by the bank of villains. There are a few different ideas - stealing the moon, a pyramid, or anything worth making the news as the "WORST" villain yet. Also an army of little hilarious minions, a crazy doctor that is the brains behind all of the weapons used to create these news worthy plots of criminal action. It was great. The 3D was great. We had popcorn (of course), and it too was great. This is getting rambly-er. In the end, little mister and I would see it again.

i'm not gonna lie, picking out outfits for outdoor music festivals can be a bit difficult. you have to make some correct assumptions about your day/weekend at an event like this: you pretty much stink the entire time, it's hard to wear any makeup because your hot and sweaty, and it's also kinda hard to dress cute when all you want is comfy shoes and a loose fitting clothes. it's extreme conditions that i would not be able to tolerate if not for an unbelievable time of incredible music and the feeling of being in a completely different universe than your own. so because the Omaha scene has a few outdoor venues/festivals coming up i took the time to find some inspiration for my lady friends. so my day was average. and I don't have a ton to say other than....

reading: all the magazines that have been piling up in my "to read" list. (architectural digest, dwell, interior design and lucky-which I didn't subscribe for, it just started coming) And to add to these magazines: I am starting to question doing my hobby as a career. It's an 8-5 that keeps me from my life, should I have chosen to do what was more a hobby because I don't like it every day. And it's starting to drain my desire to do it after I leave my 8-5. and also now the magazines I used to wait axiously for sit for weeks before I open them. My inspiration is gone more days than it is here. Or maybe I'm just in a rut. Or maybe I shouldn't be whining, I do have a job and a car that runs :)

listening: to songs i'd love to be able to cover if only i were in a band.

drinking: green tea everyday!! or Sonic anything

grilling: anything as a kabob

thinking: about a new hobby since i'm fizzling out in the hobby i loved because i started a career in it. maybe card games or tricks??

Today a couple of product reviews. Blockbuster's revision of RedBox (or more like Blockbuster’s try to compete with). It's a rent a movie in a box. Kinda like an atm for movies, great idea but not well executed on Blockbuster's part. Yeah, it's a $1 rental but like redbox they get'cha if not returned the next day. In an ideal world this would make sense if I would remember to take the movie back the next day. So far between redbox and now blockbuster express these $1 movies rentals have cost me about $25. Anyway back to blockbuster EXPRESS: I believe once our moive was selected, it took 15-20minutes for the machine to finish our transaction and give us our movie. Express? More like: Kinda sorta faster than the store. So double thumbs down. Netflix is still the leading movie rental phenomena.

Back yard mini pool. $20 at good ol' Walmart or Target (I've seen them at both places) I mean, it fits 2 adults (little mister was off to his dad's this past weekend) and if positioned in your day around Sunday afternoon nap time, it's a great way to work out that tan. Makes me 'o so happy. Put on a bit of Ray Charles shuffled with Rilo Kiley and you get 2 thumbs up from me for this product. I highly recommend one. Also good for nieces and nephews with water guns. A total war of getting soaked fun!!

Okay, brief rundown
another side of summer…

staying out close to all night, going to kid friendly parties after I’ve gone to a BBQ after I've gone swimming, and drinking “summer drinks” (drinks you normally drink, but in “champion size” I prefer sonic happy hour from 2-4) (and to add this is as un-sponsored as they can be, I get no checks from the man, not that I’d expect a check but don’t ever expect me to be underground about it. Really, I just like Sonics’ ice and their endless drink selections)

Plastic Blow up pools in backyards to help me work out a tan while maintaining my 8 to 5 indoor job hours. (insert Dolly Parton 9-5 lyrics now)

Put to a challenge: save all receipts that I have that involve $$ spent on any food or drink for the whole month of July. (see this is where the road trip and sonic drinks become a problem) LOOK at all those receipts and its only the 9th!!! I may need to re-evaluate my spending…..or just do this challenge in the winter when I don’t feel the need to “treat” myself daily?? (shrug) Its summer and I just wanna have some fun after 5pm, every single day...

Anyway, ENJOY your Friday. I know I will at about 2 when I go to Sonic (you can't stop me challenge!!!) or maybe I shouldn't (another shrug) I mean it's happy hour so that means half off???

Married a Disco Lovin Summer for Birthday Cake

So I already did a July mix, but as I listen over and over I realized I needed a mamma-jamma birthday, wedding, summer morphed together mix. What would be the formula necessary to craft make a mix with all the right stuff?
1) all the fun of good wedding receptions
2) While cutting the cheese out (sorry, modern country songs, like “Save a Horse- Ride a Cowboy” no thanks) very difficult, but oh-so-essential
3) And still maintaining the songs that “old people wanna dance to”.
Which would be largely, not exclusively, classics- “Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now”, Yeah!

Solution? Take two fun lovin' dancing anyones, add one cup (heh) of disco, and shake it all together, for someone’s BIRTHDAY, wedding or summer party! (who’s birthday is next, btw?) So who likes to party down, now? With this mix….I’d say you better!!!

PS. no one really knows the torture of toys that make noise until you are in a house with it for 48hours. Grandma will rethink her toy purchases from now on :) OK OK, here is our OKC 4th of July. Long weekends are always welcomed and the 4th of July is almost here. I always get gitty about this holiday. When I was little, my home town always had their annual town summer celebration over the fourth of July weekend. Softball touraments, parades, sand volleyball, all day long talant shows, picnics and of course fireworks. I remember loading up my dad's pick-up truck with tons of blankets and heading to the ball field where all my friends were waiting to pile in the back of the truck. We'd lie on our backs and try to guess the colors of the next firework to explode. It's been over 10 years since I have been in my home town for this holiday and I am still not returning this year, even though it is my 10 year class reunion. (can't believe it's 10 years, eek) Instead. Road Trip to another American state, Oklahoma. My grandpa and grandma will have the pleasure of creating these childhood memories with little mister this year and I can't hardly wait. Sitting at the office today is torture.

So I hope everyone has a safe holiday and lots of memories/stories to tell when we return.

1 hour Off coupons and a new armrest.

This is one day in the life of my mister. I think I need to visit his work and encourage them to provide better seating. However, this photo made me laugh for 2 reasons. 1. 1 hour off coupons?? hahahahaha. that's just funny, like Yippee, winning the lottery for sure!!! But seriously, I wish my work would do this. 2. the arm rest isn't even on the chair? oh man! FACILITIES need to re-evaluate the morale of their employees ASAP. I U!

We'll be getting in the car tomorrow in the afternoon sometime to make our first road trip out of state together. Mister, little mister and I. Can't wait to show pictures and share stories. Real posts about that to come. Look for airplanes, golden seats, and lots & lots of root beer.

Thursday song obsession: (funny story behind this: I needed to pick up the mister from work yesterday. He told me "I'll start walking at 5 and you can just pick me up street side when we meet. 1. The mister and I have been crave'n mango, so last night we planned our dinner around the fruit. Apparently a grilled chicken, pepper and mango kabob takes care of that crave, because they were so good. I ate about my weights worth and was still not satisfied

2. So we took a walk to the gas station around the corner with his niece, Jameson to get a 50 cent ice cream cone. He got twist, she got chocolate and I got vanilla. We took our time walking back, it was such a great evening.

3. The little mister has been at grandma's since Saturday and he comes home tonight (thank goodness, I've been missing him like crazy) Every evening I talk to him and he has done some sort of adventure that he is so excited about and today was his first fish. He told me "it had giant teeth" I think he's been watching too many shark week's on discovery.

After suffering some great losses at sand volleyball and bleacher nose diving at Jax's baseball game, it was nice to load up on ibuprofen this morning, like I'm a 60 year old, or even 80, women suffering from old age. But the truth is I'm 28 and just went full MAX on my weekend activities. First (as I've talked all year on Sequel) I danced the color off my $1.95 New Life Thrift shoes.That band is incredible. In all reality: I love these shoes for shows, so if this was to happen, I only paid $1.95!!!
Then, a morning of baseball, Jaxson is awesome! (I might add) But the real story of the morning was me taking a tumble down the bleachers, hitting every corner of my body on the way down. I have a bruise on my hip the size of Africa. It was one of those times people around me waited to see if I was crying or laughing before they started to laugh, I'm sure it was a sight to be seen. Coffee in one hand and bags of stuff in the other, flying through the air as I land. I ended up laughing so hard I was crying, which lead the whole crowd to do the same. Anyway, here's the little Mister in action....again.

And lastly, a mean game/tourney between friends of sand volleyball. Jen and Mike have their very own court and every year this die hard battle of beasts come alive. It was hot, full of bugs, good food cooked over a fire, and lots of good conversation after we were beaten and sore from our fierce competition. I would show a picture of this but I didn't even bother to get my camera out because I was covered head to toe with sweat and sand and bugs. I'm sure someone has a picture I can steal eventually....

Hi, I have been doing some thinking about the "mood" of my blog. I feel like my posts are lacking and inspiration is missing lately. I apologize for that. So I'm going to start something new. Monthly I will update you on BW (the mister) things. They will vary from dreams, to quotes, to any other things that he does to continually keep me laughing. I am truly a lucky girl.
To start here are 2 recent dreams (quoted):
#1 "......and I started a clothing store in some posh mall in a mountain village. the thing was I was gay. it was funny i walked around a nervous wreck not knowing if we would succeed. our stuff was crazy priced $81 for a green wool knit tie. $82 for the matching socks. our service was terrible and all our customers were crumpy middle aged white dudes with pop bellies. the only woman shopper was the mom from home alone and she was pissed she couldn't be first in line.The dream ended with a makeout session between me and you in the changing room. I know I thought i was gay in the dream. maybe I was just waiting for the right girl to tickle my fancy."

#2"....a dream where I was going on a seek and destroy hunting expedition with Hubby, Chad, the captain on Jaws, Sylvester Stalon's son, and a martial artists with an infected foot looking for a cure. we had to cross a gator infested lake to get to an island where the creature we were hunting was looming.We were leaving from a lake house that you and I were going to buy from the lead singer of pearl jam. Jaxson was still 7 but for some reason he was packing to go off to college. we were unable to have any more children so we had 4 adopted babies 3,4,5,6 years old who were practicing gymnastics. "

seriously?? Those dreams make me smile all day. He is such a dreamer, everyday about every subject. We've made complete discussions about what we'd do if we won a million $$'s and also the appropriate shoes to be worn daily to evade bad guys because he always thinks in terms of super heroes. I have managed to find a man who is perfect for my son. We both adore him.

Next to come a monthly mixed tape, so that I can share with you what I am listening to, since I am always on the hunt for new bands and new albums and new music. that to come soon once I figure out an appropriate interweb/blogger site to work with what I'm thinking :)

I lift weights (but it's a heavy 7 year hold, can you believe it...I still hold a SEVEN year old??)

Yesterday I discovered that Google has made it possible to choose a custom image for the classic Google search homepage. It's nice making the desktop (and therefore the office) just a little bit more stylish or more what I love seeing on a daily basis.

If I were to get serious about changing a reception area for a company here is what I'd do.

AFTERMaybe (but probably not) all of my projects can be as fun as this one was. It was more a test to see if appearance of space can make a company. If a better space (aesthetically) can influence personality? (or maybe this was my selling pitch to this client to get a better first impression for their customers) From the carpet to the color extravaganza to the furniture picked......More to come on the custom sign they were having made for behind the reception desk.

Also, Jaxson loves the movie Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and this morning before work he had it on the tv screen. I could hear it playing as I was appling my daily dose of make-up. And discovered, even though I've seen that movie several times ,I love the Jello Mold scene the most. If you haven't seen it watch this: (sorry for the sound....)

I had all these plans for great pictures of Memorial Day weekend. You know, farmers market, thrifting, mowing, planting flowers, nieces birthday, and everything else that kept me from just laying around on my sofa all weekend. But that doesn't matter now, becasue the time is gone and I don't have ONE single photo to show from my mighty weekend. Good news is, someone else probably took most of the same photos, don't fret-they’re on the internet some place, they are just not of me or my life :) SO instead, imaginary pictures with descriptions. Besides, (even though I follow them closely) I get tired of bloggers and massive photo sessions of themselves.....

Started with my niece's 7th birthday. That was not a major downer, the girl got a trampoline. It's funny how after some time has gone by (plus having a child), those things are just not what they use to be. I definitely can't jump as high as I used too and when I did get a little high my comfort level began to be messed with (28, really?) But my nieces (Madison-10, Emmie-7, and Sofie-4) had no trouble acting as I did on this thing when I was a kid. But I do contribute all of my knee issues to spending 10 years of my childhood on a trampoline. I have the knees of an 80 year old woman or man??

Then the first trip to the farmers market of the summer session. It's early so the things I was on hunt for were not to their fullest potential. Walked away with asparagus and tomatoes. Next time my load WILL be heavier. Also did a stroll to Homer's to pick up the new LCD album but didn't realize they don't work on my mommy schedule....they didn't open until 10 and we were there at 8:30. (ended up buying the album on iTunes)

Did a small get together with my boyfriends family. His nephew has been asking (for every holiday) for 2x4's, just 2x4's. FUNNY! But it all paid off this weekend when the most awesome fort to be made was made. Of course, Bret couldn't help but dive in to this construction. We ended up staying longer than planned and even going back the next day. And no arguments from me because I am in love with his family. His sister, Lisa, has 4 child. 1 set of twins who are 2years old and I spend my time trying to interrupt their talk. giggles all day. But let me go back to before Lisa’s, we had lunch after the farmer's market with Bret's other sister, Brooke. Hamburgers on a well set table in the front yard underneath the best tree in the neighborhood. Brooke has 2 children and 1 out of the 2 like me :) Not kidding, I'm still working on that relationship.

That night, a girl outing with Niki and Jess to Sex and the City 2. 1 large diet Coke later, I was squirming in my chair to hold it until the end of the movie. Bad idea, because the movie was GREAT!!! and then after the movie a few glasses of wine on a Dundee patio until last call.

We did a BBQ at Niki's place the next day. And that is always a treat, her boyfriend does the cooking and his chef skills come in handy for me to have a great meal. Kristin, Jeff, Kaydence, Bret, Courtney and myself had an overall good time. Kristin and I were our signifigants DD, though :)

Then last but not least, drive to York to get Jaxson. He is home from his dad's and that is always the end of a mighty mighty good weekend. Having him safely home is all I need at the end of a day.

Suggestions for the next holiday weekend....American flag bathing suits and photos. Man....I'm so frustrated that I took NO pictures.....

I've been growing my hair out for like 10 years, but the growing pains always lead me to CHOP the length. But for the past year or so I've made it thru the pain and have my hair to a likeable length. HOW-ever, you always want what you don't have, because look at this super cut. (give me strength to not cut....NO CUTTING)

It's been about a month since we've done anything constructive to my new pad. BUT last night we hung this golden treasure mirror. We found this little gem at an estate sale. And it only seemed right to take a few pictures of ourselves. Rolling in this crowd makes for lots of pictures and home decor :) Its summertime so we find it necessary to be outdoors, btw....my little garden is flourishing. Pics to come after this weekend’s addition. Can’t wait to finalize my little 4x4 garden. Impressed? I am.

Anyway: Hello there friends, let's talk updates:

let's see......Jaxson started baseball (Coach pitch). First practice. He had a challenging time, he was a little ahead of his teammates (if you know what I mean, in the nicest way possible Jax is just an athlete) PS. there goes my dream of a rockstar :). Unfortunately at this age ALL kids participate. And I believe whole heartedly that they should, however, before starting a sport I beg of parents: play catch with your child once or twice. And that's all I have to say about that. There will be pictures and more to come on this topic (full season to start June 5th)

3 day weekend to come. YES!!! You see, I ran out of paid vacation time in January and it won't start over until September. So I LONG for these longer weekends. Jax will be with his dad (sad face) but I plan on doing some yard work, car cleaning, thrift shopping and farmer's marketing. Plus start my summer tan!!! "Like a golden fleece....."

Had a nice lunch with ma lady Ashley at Wohlner's Grocery Store in Aksarben yesterday. People!! they have awesome sandwiches and a patio to dine at! Try it, it's pretty fresh :)

I recieved this in a forwarded email today and felt the need to share:

1. I think part of a best friend's job should be to immediately clear your computer history if you die.
2. Nothing sucks more than that moment during an argument when you realize you're wrong.
3. I totally take back all those times I didn't want to nap when I was younger.
4. There is great need for a sarcasm font.
5. How the heck are you supposed to fold a fitted sheet?
6. Was learning cursive really necessary?
7. Map Quest really needs to start their directions on #5. I'm pretty sure I know how to get out of my neighborhood.
8. Obituaries would be a lot more interesting if they told you how the person died.
9. I can't remember the last time I wasn't at least kind of tired.
10. Bad decisions make good stories.
11. You never know when it will strike, but there comes a moment at work when you know that you just aren't going to do anything productive for the rest of the day.
12. Can we all just agree to ignore whatever comes after Blue Ray? I don't want to have to restart my collection...again.
13. I'm always slightly terrified when I exit out of Word and it asks me if I want to save any changes to my ten-page research paper that I swear I did not make any changes to.
14. "Do not machine wash or tumble dry" means I will never wash this - ever.
15. I hate when I just miss a call by the last ring (Hello? Hello? Dang it!), but when I immediately call back, it rings nine times and goes to voicemail. What did you do after I didn't answer? Drop the phone and run away?
16. I hate leaving my house confident and looking good and then not seeing anyone of importance the entire day. What a waste.
17. I keep some people's phone numbers in my phone just so I know not to answer when they call.
18. I think the freezer deserves a light as well.
19. I disagree with Kay Jewelers. I would bet on any given Friday or Saturday night more kisses begin with Miller Lite than Kay.
20. I wish Google Maps had an "Avoid Ghetto" routing option.
21. Sometimes, I'll watch a movie that I watched when I was younger and suddenly realize I had no idea what the heck was going on when I first saw it.
22. I would rather try to carry 10 plastic grocery bags in each hand than take 2 trips to bring my groceries in.
23. The only time I look forward to a red light is when I'm trying to finish a text.
24. I have a hard time deciphering the fine line between boredom and hunger.
25. How many times is it appropriate to say "What?" before you just nod and smile because you still didn't hear or understand a word they said?
26. I love the sense of camaraderie when an entire line of cars team up to prevent an ass from cutting in at the front. Stay strong, brothers and sisters!
27. Shirts get dirty. Underwear gets dirty. Pants? Pants never get dirty, and you can wear them forever.
28. Is it just me or do high school kids get dumber & dumber every year?
29. There's no worse feeling than that millisecond you're sure you are going to die after leaning your chair back a little too far.
30. As a driver I hate pedestrians, and as a pedestrian I hate drivers, but no matter what the mode of transportation, I always hate cyclists.
31. Sometimes I'll look down at my watch 3 consecutive times and still not know what time it is.

There is a thing called being SICK and that's been me for the past 3 days. Does it automatically come with age that the illness last longer or have I just not been taking care of myself?? Either way, I've been bed ridden for the past 2 days and my boyfriend snuck these pictures of how I accomplished sleeping through sunshine, lawns being mowed and barking dogs. (btw, all of my neighbors are GROUNDED). They are grounded from doing any of the above listed things for the next week so I can sleep through the day.

guess two things are at point. 1) I need to work a little bit on proper diet, exercise and all around health for myself so that sleeping off sickness durning a summer day won't happen. People mowing, dogs barking and sunshine is all the goodness this city has needed after a winter we just had. 2) Do Churches still have bells that they ring at important times of the day?? YEP, the one right up the street from where I live......

i woke up this morning in a wee funk due to a 101 fever. But I’m at work, sitting quietly in my corner office hoping to pass this day by with A. no one knowing I’m sick and B. hopefully out of complete misery with Motrin, vitamins and lots of juice to help pass this illness. It’s just aches, pains and a burnin’ fever that gives me chills. My body just can’t decide: hot or cold.

Oh mighty school PlayDay. Jaxson was the Farmer......And the set of the farm scene.

Jaxson had one line: "the pigs are feeling hungry" and he did a great jod! Mighty Mighty school Play. I think I sat in my chair with a big ol' goofy smile on my face the whole time :) His art work of a farm sceen was choosen to be on the cover of the program as well.....couldn't be more proud.

My Planting as of lately:
I need more rock (obviously) and mulch! So a continued project for sure.....But my duplex is really looking more out of trouble. Fancy (maybe be no big deal to the greener thumbs out there but for me it's my first so it's fair to use fancy). Just wait until these flowers spread, it will be total tops!!! And I got the OK to paint my front door, so off to select a blue of beauty :)

I had a weekend of flowers. These were my mother's day vegetation.....Fancy(er)?

I've thought about some other ways I'd like to spend my $$, if paying bills wasn't a thing:

miles of hair
mega eyelashes
naps, lots of naps. in a room with open windows and rain poring outside
Surface to Air, anything
any basic from American Apparel, love for the kiddo too
trips to the places I want to take the kiddo to (American History is where I want to start and then work out of the States)
gym membership (just in case I feel like it)
DVR
many more pairs of sunglasses, like
a house, with a fence for a dog, like (name would be something way better than lauren, how about Hexe, Blur, Robo??)
Lot's of grown up furniture. I'd have to go on an antique road trip to acquire all the furniture I would need. (this also goes back to the house thing, a house to fit my furniture)
Park time with a frizbee
and last but not least boat. I'd like a boat.
